Miami-Dade Adopts Supplemental Math Program for High Schools

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) in Florida is adopting Carnegie Learning Math in an effort to help improve math achievement in high schools throughout the district. The district will implement the math intervention and supplemental learning software in all 42 of its high schools during the 2010-2011 school year.

MDCPS began using Carnegie Learning's Cognitive Tutor in 12 of its schools in 2002.

The Cognitive Tutor programs, based on more than two decades of research into how people think and learn, can evaluate and analyze students' strengths and weaknesses and allow for differentiated instruction targeted to individual needs. They also offer such features as concrete, real-world examples, multiple representations of each problem, interactive examples, automated assessment, and immediate feedback.

The district-wide implementation this year will include Cognitive Tutor software and Bridge to Algebra textbooks and software and Algebra I software. Carnegie Learning will also provide professional development to aid MDCPS educators in using the programs.
