Microsoft Posts SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 Release Candidate

Microsoft last week posted the release candidate (RC) of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2008 R2.
SCVMM 2008 R2 is Microsoft's solution for the management, deployment and optimization of virtual and physical IT infrastructure. The new service pack adds management capabilities for two virtualization features that are part of the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 RC, which Microsoft released in late October.
Those two virtualization features in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 RC are "dynamic memory" and "RemoteFX."
Dynamic memory allows operators to pool the memory available on hardware and allocate it to virtual machines as needed. The RemoteFX capability supports an improved graphics experience on thin-client devices when users connect remotely with servers to enable desktop virtualization.
The release candidate status for both service packs means that they are both feature complete and nearing final product release status. Microsoft's announcement of the SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 RC explains that the RC should only be installed in test environments. It's not intended for use in production environments.
The SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 RC can now be downloaded from the Microsoft Connect portal here, according to Microsoft's announcement. Support for the release is provided at Microsoft's TechNet forum page here.
