Moodle 2.0.1 Brings Dozens of Enhancements to LMS

Developers have released Moodle 2.0.1, a minor update to the popular open source learning management system.

The new version incorporates 80 relatively minor bug fixes that have been found since the 2.0 release, which formally rolled out in November 2010. Moodle's developers said there have been no major security fixes for the software; the changes address issues like problems with permissions when moving course categories, navigation issues, and problems with the glossary filter. It also includes a new phpmyadmin plugin.

Moodle is a widely adopted learning management system that's used by about 1.1 million teachers and more than 39 million users via 50,000 sites worldwide. Those users participate in some 4.1 million total courses as of this writing. (Current statistics can be found here.) Moodle supports both small and large deployments (with several sites well beyond 100,000 users) and includes course management tools, various Web 2.0 technologies, online assessments, integration with plagiarism detection tools, integration with repositories and electronic portfolio software, and other features common to learning management systems.

Moodle 2.0.1 is available now as a free download across multiple platforms. It requires PHP 5.2.8 and one of the following: MySQL 5.0.25, Postgres 8.3, MSSQL 2005, or Oracle 10.2. Complete details about the 2.0.1 update can be found here. The update can be downloaded here.
