Desire2Learn Capture 7.0 Adds Accessibility, Social Features

Desire2Learn has released a major update to its capture and streaming media system, Capture 7.0.

Desire2Learn Capture is a family of lecture capture hardware and software systems that includes Capture Station, Capture Software, and Capture Portal. The technology is based on ePresence from Captual Technologies, which Desire2Learn acquired earlier this year.

Capture Station is a turnkey capture and webcasting system, while Capture Software is a software alternative that runs on Windows-based systems. They're designed to capture all aspects of an in-room presentation, including video and audio of the speaker, projected images, material displayed on a desktop screen, and images from document cameras. Captures can be streamed live and also posted online on-demand viewing. Capture Portal is a Web-based rich media repository that incorporates a player for end users, plus various management and post-production capabilities.

The new 7.0 release of Capture adds a variety of improvements to social tools, as well as production and playback. It also beefs up accessibility with Section 508 compliance and compliance with WCAG 2.0 ("Web Content Accessibility Guidelines").

Some other new features in version 7.0 include:

  • New capabilities for end users to control Capture Station using their own room control devices, made possible by a new API;
  • Tagging support for live and archived events; and
  • Support for .srt files for closed captioning and subtitling of archived presentations.

Desire2Learn Capture 7.0 is available now. Further details can be found on the Capture site.
