Democrasoft Releases Collaborize Classroom iPad App

Democrasoft has released the Collaborize Classroom Pro iPad app, a tool that's designed to complement instruction and facilitate conversations and collaboration inside and outside the classroom.

Collaborize Classroom allows teachers to create online discussion groups based on language proficiency, special assignments, practice test groups, learning abilities, and class period.

Other features of Collaborize Classroom include:

  • A choice of question types, including yes or no, multiple choice, and vote;
  • Support for document, video, and audio attachments; and
  • Reports and graphics that show student participation in specific discussions, which teachers can use to help decide future lessons.

According to the Santa Rosa, CA-based company, it decided to develop an iPad-optimized version after seeing an increase in the tablet's use by school districts.

Functionality of the Collaborize Classroom Pro iPad app is similar to those of the free app recently released by Democrasoft for iPhones and iPods, but was designed with the iPad screen size in mind. It allows students to log in to their Collaborize Classroom accounts and vote, reply to topics, and comment.

The app takes up 1.1 MB of space on the iPad and requires iOS 4.3 or up.

Teachers will continue to have free access to the Collaborize Classroom Topic Library, which includes subject-based lessons from their peers in English and language arts, history and social studies, math, science and technology, foreign languages, health and life skills, business and economics, philosophy and religion, and visual and performing arts.

The iPad app, which costs $0.99, can be downloaded in the Apple App Store.
