Splashtop Adds Whiteboard Kindle App

Splashtop has added a Kindle Fire app that allows teachers to access their computer desktops remotely and use it as an interactive whiteboard. The company recently released the new Splashtop Whiteboard edition, and it is available now for download at the Amazon Store.

The Splashtop Whiteboard Kindle app uses Splashtop Remote Desktop, which lets users view their computer desktops, open programs, and view and edit files via tablet with an on-screen keyboard.

Features of the Kindle app include the ability to:

  • Watch Flash videos and streaming video such as Hulu, and view DVDs in high definition. Users can also listen to CDs and iTunes, and open all other file types for text, photos, and more as long as the computer has the appropriate application installed;
  • Access programs from the desktop computer, such as Apple Keynote or Microsoft PowerPoint, remotely;
  • Use gestures on the toolbar to highlight, write, or draw over content with pens in several colors and sizes;
  • Capture and save screenshots; and
  • Gradually show text and photos with a screen shade tool, or focus on one area using the spotlight feature.

The app requires a Wi-Fi connection for the Kindle, and users will need to download Splashtop Streamer onto the Mac or PC they want to access. Streamer is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and XP, as well as Mac OS X 10.6. It is recommended that computers have 1 GB of RAM and a dual-core CPU.

Splashtop also has apps for Android, iPad and Nook.
