Washington District Opens Surveillance Camera Network to Local Cops

A Washington school district is reconfiguring its network to give local law enforcement officers access to its school security cameras. This access at Walla Walla Public Schools is being granted to improve crisis management procedures and emergency response efforts.

The district's technology department is working with a vendor to set up a master server on the network to grant local police access to the videos. The vendor will also handle training sessions, which are expected to be done before the new school year begins.

In a statement Walla Wall said it relies "heavily" on law enforcement to help keep its schools safe. The latest move, according to Superintendent Mick Miller, will provide "law enforcement officers with another tool to use during emergency situations. School safety is a top priority for the school district, and in today's world we need to maximize our partnerships to keep everyone safe."
