OpenEd Catalogs Common Core-Aligned Videos and Games, Provides Free LMS

Ed tech newcomer OpenEd has launched a new online resource that aims to be the largest catalog of Common Core-aligned videos and games on the Internet.

The OpenEd service provides a searchable database of multimedia resources, a recommendation engine, and the ability to create playlists. The service works in conjunction with existing learning management systems; however, it also provides an integrated, free LMS that educators can use for creating courses and organizing their materials.

More than 250,000 objects are currently cataloged, covering English/language arts, math, social sciences, and sciences. It also includes categories created specifically for California history standards, New York's social studies standards, and next-generation science standards.

"There are many powerful educational videos and fun learning games available online, but in the past finding content that supports a particular lesson or standard has been difficult to impossible," said Adam Blum, CEO of OpenEd, in a prepared statement. "We created OpenEd to provide an easy to use, free tool allowing anyone to access the wealth of content available — and it's all open source so others can leverage our work to help educate."

OpenEd is a free service and is open now. Registration is required to create courses and playlists, but the service is otherwise registration-free. Further information can be found at opened.io.
