PTA and LifeLock Developing Learning Kits To Teach Good Digital Habits

The National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is collaborating with a company in the business of identity theft protection to come up with tools and resources to teach kids "good digital habits."

The association has teamed up with LifeLock with the goal of helping young people make smart decisions and develop good online habits as they interact in the digital world. The two organizations said in a statement that they would be working throughout 2014 to develop interactive digital tools and "learning kits" to raise awareness of potential problems and to share best practices among families.

Said LifeLock president Hilary Schneider, "We want our children to embrace technology to live freely in the digital world, but we also want to introduce the positive online habits that will keep them safe and protect their personal information. PTA has the leadership, infrastructure and expertise to foster these digital dialogues between families, students and teachers in communities across the U.S."

The National PTA also recently put together an infographic for "Safer Internet Day" that shares statistics on how children connect; for example, three out of four kids age eight and under have access to a mobile device, up from 52 percent in 2011.
