Samsung, Pearson Partner on Literacy Lab

Samsung and Pearson have partnered to offer the Samsung Literacy Lab, which combines Samsung Chromebooks or tablets with Pearson's iLit literacy program and a one-day professional development program. The announcement was made at this week's ISTE 2016 conference and expo taking place in Denver, CO.

Pearson's iLit program is designed to provide students in grades 3-12 with personalized literacy learning support, engaging activities and a built-in reward system. Students complete an initial diagnostic test that measures their reading ability, and then the system provides a recommended reading list from its digital library of more than 3,000 full-text books.

According to information released by Pearson iLit is available in four versions:

  • iLit 20, which is a supplemental version of the program designed to be used for 15 to 20 minutes per day, two to five times per week in grades 3 to 12;
  • iLit 45, which is designed as a complementary or replacement English language arts curriculum for students reading at or below grade level;
  • iLit 90, which is designed as a complete English language arts curriculum for readers who are two or more years below grade level; and
  • iLit ELL offers additional support for English language learners in grades 4 through 12.

The Samsung Literacy Lab is available in packages of 10 and includes:

  • 10 Samsung Chromebook 3 or Galaxy Tab E devices;
  • 10 licenses of Pearson iLit 20, iLit 45, iLit 90 or iLit ELL with 1-year or 3-year licensing options; and
  • One day of professional development.
