OnHand Schools Launches Personalized Learning App for Students in Pennsylvania

OnHand Schools (OHS) has launched the Kandoolu Learning Navigator, a new personalized learning app that aims to empower educators and engage students in Pennsylvania.

Kandoolu offers standards-aligned questions designed to make it easier for teachers to create quick quizzes to check for understanding. The app allows teachers to see student progress in real time to allow for differentiation or to highlight common misunderstandings. The app then offers activities for practice designed to reinforce key concepts for struggling students or to challenge those who are performing better. At launch, Kandoolu features alignment to Common Core and PA Core standards for math in grades 3 through 8. Additional modules with expanded standards alignment will be released in 2017.

"Kandoolu is a game-changing new tool that gives teachers immediate information on student learning," said Bart Rocco, superintendent of schools at the Elizabeth Forward School District and adviser for the Kandoolu app project, in a prepared statement. "Students are directed to personalized skill-based resources that are geared towards their individual areas of strength or deficiency. Kandoolu lets students control their own learning and have fun while reaching academic success."

Kandoolu was launched as a result of collaboration dubbed the Targeted Learning Moments initiative, which brought together OnHand Schools, Elizabeth Forward School District, Allegheny Intermediate Unit, Intermediate Unit 1 and South Fayette School District. Following development, the app was tested in numerous classrooms in the spring and has been in pilot tests this fall. More information is available at onhandschools.com.
