$10,000 Award to Be Given to Aspiring Black School Leader

The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) has launched a new award aimed at improving representation of black leaders in schools. The 2021 award, sponsored by ed tech firm Curriculum Associates, will be given to one black educator "pursuing an advanced degree in educational leadership."

The award is open to all NABSE members who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in an advanced degree program in educational leadership. Requirements include filling out an application form, writing a brief essay and submitting a resume.

“We recognize the need to develop a new generation of educational leaders, and—at this time in our country’s history—developing African-American and Hispanic leaders is especially important to the growth of the field,” said Fadhilika Atiba-Weza, executive director of NABSE, in a prepared statement. “We are appreciative of Curriculum Associates for sharing this vision and funding this scholarship as part of our strategic partnership.”

“For decades, NABSE has been a champion of equity in education through its ongoing support of Black students and educators alike,” said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates. “We value and recognize the important work of the organization and are proud to sponsor this scholarship, which will go a long way in supporting the professional advancement of a standout educator.”

The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2021. The award recipient will be recognized at an event at the 49th-annual NABSE conference, to be held in-person in Los Angeles Nov. 10–14. Complete details can be found at nabse.org/scholarship-award.
