HMH Forms Educator Council to Inform AI Tool Development

Adaptive learning company HMH has established an AI Educator Council that brings together teachers, instructional coaches and leaders from school district across the country to help shape its AI solutions. The goal is to ensure innovation remains grounded in classroom reality and research-backed pedagogy, the company said in a news announcement.

Council members will work with HMH Labs — a team focused on the development and customer experience of emerging technologies — to provide feedback on AI-driven products. They will meet regularly to test new features and share classroom experiences about how they are using AI, the company said.

"AI must be built with — not just for — educators," said Andrew Goldman, EVP for HMH Labs, in a statement. "It is critical our work and perspective on AI is focused on connections with high quality curriculum, actionable data and the real-world use and application of products. The HMH AI Educator Council is instrumental in our planning. It drives the development of tools that are not only innovative but also practical, equitable and supportive of the incredible work teachers do every day."

The company reports that insights from the AI Educator Council have already influenced product enhancements and solutions for the upcoming back-to-school season, including tools for automating teacher tasks.

"It's been inspiring to hear of the different uses for AI outside of my four classroom walls," commented Katherine Beals, an elementary school teacher in Warren County, KY, and member of the HMH AI Educator Council. "It's important for teachers to see how AI cannot replace an educator. Instead, it's an enhancer that frees up educators to spend the bulk of their time where it matters — teaching and creating alongside their students!"
