Kanex has released a new adapter that connects Apple AirPlay devices to legacy classroom projectors.

Apple's AirPlay technology allows users to stream images and movies wirelessly from desktops, laptops, and iOS devices. It also lets users mirror their iOS devices wirelessly via Apple TV, allowing them to be displayed on TVs and projectors.

The new Kanex ATV Pro is designed for legacy projectors that are otherwise unable to connect to Apple TVs because they lack HDMI ports. The ATV Pro connects to the Apple TV's HDMI output port (and other devices' HDMI ports, such as the Mac Mini) and provides a VGA port (mini D-sub 15-pin) and audio (stereo minijack) to connect to older projectors and sound systems. Using the adapter, classroom presenters can mirror their iPad screens on older projectors and stream media from iOS devices and other devices.

"As districts and schools look to technology modernization projects over the next few years, ATV Pro can help facilitate the jump into iLearning, creating streamlined environments and optimal classroom opportunities for teachers and students, alike," said Chris Coffelt, director of technology at California's Mill Valley School District, in a prepared statement. "ATV Pro can be key in helping schools create the demand for iLearning experiences from K-12."

The HDCP 1.2-compliant device accepts SD and HD signals via HDMI from 480i to 1080p with a vertical refresh rate range of 50 Hz to 60 Hz. The device does not require external power.

The ATV Pro is available now for $59. Additional details can be found on Kanex's site.
