Android Tablet Aims to Support Users with Speech Challenges

DynaVox, a Pittsburgh, PA-based provider of speech therapy solutions, has launched a new tablet and app designed for students and individuals with speech challenges.

The DynaVox T10 comes with a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display, is .83-inch thick (at the speaker), and weighs in at just under two pounds. The device features front- and rear-facing cameras. Ports on the Android-based tablet include micro USB, micro HDMI, headphone/microphone jack, and expansion port.

Dynavox Compass App runs on the T10, iPad, iPad Mini, and Windows tablet. Designed for users who are unable to use their natural voice to communicate, the software comes with messaging tools – including Topic Pages, QuickFires, and Quick Phrases, to name a few -- designed to help individuals engage in conversation. Users can also build custom messages using the app's Keyboards, Word Lists, and Core tools.

Also included with the T10 and Compass is access to myDynaVox, a personalized online portal. Individuals along with their support team can use the cloud-based portal to manage communication content as well as share files and communication pages.

"Our technologies foster connections that empower individuals to realize their full communication potential, and help enable them to live enriched, fulfilling lives," said DynaVox CEO Michelle Wilver in a company statement. "More and more, these personal connections are made using cloud- and mobile-technologies that our valued customers will now be able to benefit from as well."

Additional information about the T10 and Compass app can be found online.
