Pearson Integrates Code-ED Notification System with PowerSchool

A mass notification company is teaming up with education technology vendor Pearson to build functionality that will be accessible in PowerSchool, Pearson's student information system (SIS). Emergency Communications Network (ECN) will be using an application programming interface to embed its Code-ED system into PowerSchool, enabling district users to segment messages based on information maintained in the SIS.

According to ECN Marketing Manager Stephanie Meyers, the integration will "sync data from the school's student information system directly into their Code-ED system. To the user, the integration will be seamless and transparent."

The Code-ED system gives authorized school users "a multimodal approach to notification." Messaging can be sent out via voice messages, emails, and text messages. The new feature will allow customers to reach all or targeted groups within the school community within a single interface. The two companies expect the integration to be completed before the end of the year.

A common use for the system is to deliver alerts about severe weather. Code-ED sends alerts to school administrators in the direct path of a severe thunderstorm, tornado, or flash flood moments after warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.

"We are very excited about this collaboration, as it allows us to enhance our communication tools within PowerSchool," said Pearson Director of Business Development Oliver Wreford. "We believe that uniting Code-ED and PowerSchool will allow us to bring additional student data management and communication capabilities to the student populations served."

Lancaster Central School District in New York and Waseca Public Schools in Minnesota are both school customers that use the Code-ED system.
