Worldwide Projector Market Sees Growth; U.S. Stays Flat

In the first quarter of 2014, the global projector market grew 7 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.87 million units, according to market research company Futuresource Consulting. In the U.S., however, market volume increased just 2 percent. Futursource pointed to high penetration, an increase in usage of tablet computers in education (reducing the need for replacement central display) and delayed replacement cycles in the corporate sector as factors impacting the U.S. market.

In terms of market value, global projector sales figures grew by 7 percent to $2.3 billon, while the market remained flat in the U.S. Analysts attribute part of the increase in global sales to installation and large venue applications, which are demanding increasingly brighter solutions.

Futuresource also reported that "the default 'mainstream brightness' shifted to the 3,000-3,499 ANSI lumen section in Q1 as the trend toward higher brightness solutions continues." That brightness category now has 42 percent worldwide market share, an increase of 22 percent compared to last year.
