NC High School Implements Classworks for Remediation

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

3/6/2007—South View High School in North Carolina has implemented Classworks for remediation in core subject testing. Nearby Hoke County School District is also implementing Classworks in seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one early college.

According to developer Curriculum Advantage, the system is being used at South View to help students who need to retake end of course tests in core subjects like English I and Algebra I. North Carolina students are required to pass end of course testing in core subjects, and, when they do not meet state-mandated proficiencies, they're required to participate in 20 hours of remediation before retaking the tests. That's where Classworks comes in.

"Here is where Classworks makes the difference," said Bob Barnes, principal at South View. "I have been a high school principal in North Carolina for 30-plus years. I have never found anything that is more beneficial than Classworks."

Classworks is a computer-assisted intervention and remediation system. In addition to using the program for remediation in testing, teachers at South View are using the program in classrooms to "introduce concepts, as well as for individual use in the computer lab. But it is having the biggest impact as part of the school’s Freshman Academy, designed to help students successfully transition from middle to high school," according to Curriculum Advantage.
