HP Ships Mini 100e Education Netbook

HP has released the Mini 100e Education Edition netbook, designed as a low-cost, portable, and durable computer for K-6 student use.
Weighing in at about 3 pounds, the Mini 100e features:
- Metal alloy hinges with steel pin axles and built-in carrying handle;
- 92 percent of full-size keyboard and touchpad;
- 10.1-inch diagonal WSVGA display at (1,024 x 600);
- Intel Atom N455 processor and 1 GB DDR3 memory;
- Integrated standard ethernet modem (optional wireless WLAN available);
- High-visibility network connection LED for instructor monitoring;
- 160 GB 5,400 RPM SATA internal hard drive;
- Integrated VGA camera;
- Choice of Windows XP Home, Windows 7 Starter, or SuSE Linux operating system; and
- Energy Star qualification with mercury-free display and 90 percent recyclability by weight.
Pricing is based on contract options that vary by state and school district, but cost per unit is expected to be around $300, according to a company statement. A number of other optional items are sold separately.
