Free Social Networking Platform for Educators Enters Beta

A new education-based social networking site, Diipo.com, has launched in beta form. The site provides a free service for collaborative blogging and networking among teachers and students.

When a user registers as a teacher, he or she can set up class sites, then post announcements and assignments with links and attachments for students.

Students who register show up in a roster on the Web site and can upload files for sharing, post entries to a class blog, contribute to other group projects, and search archived conversations and posts from past projects. An "educator lounge" allows teachers to communicate with each other.

"Today's students are increasingly accustomed to socializing and conducting research in a digital environment," said David Wu, president of the startup. "With the Diipo.com platform, they can now learn and interact with teachers in a similar way. Online curriculum, study guides, and classroom newsfeeds will keep students updated and participating outside the four walls of a brick and mortar classroom."
