Indiana District Brings Streaming Media to Classrooms

An Indiana school district is turning to streaming media to deliver educational resources to its students. Warsaw Community Schools has signed on with CCC!, the streaming media service from New Dimension Media. The resources will be used as as part of classroom instruction.

The CCC! video on demand service allows teachers to access programming from producers of educational and general content covering core and non-core subjects like math, science, art, English, music, dance, and social studies. Content is aligned to state standards (as well as Canadian standards) and includes more than 3,500 individual titles from companies ranging from PBS and the National Science Foundation to Disney and New Dimension's parent company, Questar. According to New Dimension, the service is in use in classrooms that reach more than 80,000 students.

"Our goal is to bring our students the finest educational content, and New Dimension Media's streaming media will help us do just that," said Elaine Bultemeier, chief technology officer for the district, in a prepared statement.

This fall, CCC! will be adding about 500 new programs to its lineup, bringing the total to about 4,000. The new additions include a science series called Water & Life for grades 6 through 10; a language arts and science series called Moko for grades 3 through 8; a math series for grades 8 through 12 called Geometry Applications; and a social studies series for grades kindergarten through 3 called Flag Stories.

Warsaw Community Schools serves more than 6,500 K-12 students (based on 2009 data) in eight elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school, as well as career and alternative schools. Its total budget in 2010 was about $69 million.
