DimensionU Launches Math Tournament

DimensionU has launched DU the Math, a five-week tournament that invites students nationwide to compete for scholarships while strengthening their math skills through game play.

The tournament is open to students in grades 3 through 9, and is seeking a target goal of having students play 50 million minutes of math-related games this year.

Celebrity ambassadors for the tournament include Greyson Chance and Mindless Behavior.

Entrants can sign up for free at the tounament Web site, which involves a total of five, one-week competitions April 9 to May 13.

The tournament is open to individuals who will compete for $40,000 in scholarship awards and to teams that will compete to bring home the grand prize for their school: hosting privileges for the DU the Math Tournament Finals and Music Fest in their community.

According to the competition Web site, the tournament will feature four Major Competitions:

  • "Play To Win" will recognize the competitor who answers or attempts the most questions each week;
  • The "Share To Compete" prize will go to students who invite the greatest number of friends to take part in the tournament;
  • "DUtheMath UGames National Scholarship" will recognize the students who answer the most questions correctly each week; and
  • The "School Competition for the DUtheMath UGames Final and Music Festival" will go to the school that logs the greatest number of overall minutes for games.

Individual prizes for the top scorers will be awarded each week with prizes such as being an honorary "fifth member" of the band Mindless Behavior and receiving a piano lesson from singer Greyson Chance, as well as others.

In addition to the top prizes, smaller prizes will be awarded each week including celebrity merchandise, headphones, environmentally friendly water bottles, and more.

The tournament's major prizes for each of the five weeks will be announced Sundays at 4 p.m.

Prizes such as iPads, X-Box 360s, and Amazon gift cards will be also be awarded to students who help promote the tournament to their fellow students.
