ViewSonic Intros Turnkey Desktop Virtualization Platform

ViewSonic has unveiled the VSA100 ViewSonic Server Appliance powered by MaximumBit's Desktop365. The converged platform is intended to simplify the process of setting up and managing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in small-to-medium-sized organizations.

The VSA100 is a pocket-sized server appliance running MaximumBit's Desktop365 software. It's the first product to emerge from the partnership between ViewSonic and MaximumBit, and the companies claim the VSA100 will make it easier for smaller organizations to implement VDI by simplifying administration and reducing costs. The server appliance can be installed on premises, but IT administrators can manage the system from the cloud through the Desktop365 software.

According to a news release from the companies, the VSA100 supports the complete Citrix software stack, including XenDesktop and XenApp, and the ViewSonic will be showcasing the VSA100 at the Citrix Synergy conference in Orlando, FL. ViewSonic and MaximumBit have not announced support for VMware View or other VDI platforms.

Key features of the VSA100 include:

  • Setup wizard to provision and install the complete Citrix software stack on the VSA100 server appliance;
  • Built-in management portal;
  • Template-based application image management and provisioning processes;
  • Customizable application gallery that lets end users subscribe to applications on demand;
  • Tools for user support and IT operations; and
  • Automation of frequent and time-consuming tasks.

The VSA100 ViewSonic Server Appliance powered by MaximumBit's Desktop365 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2015.
