Google Quizzes Debuts at ISTE, App Bundle for Chrome OS Announced

Google today announced several new education-focused technologies, among them the new Google Cast and the full rollout of the educational virtual reality tool known as Google Expeditions. The company also announced two new, lower-profile technologies for education.

Google Quizzes, available now, is an addition to Google Apps for Education that allows teachers to set up quizzes and grade responses automatically. The addition is part of Google Forms.

According to Google: "Starting today, Quizzes in Google Forms will allow teachers to auto-grade multiple choice and checkbox questions — so teachers can spend less time grading and more time teaching. Teachers can also add review materials in the form of explanations, supplemental websites, or review videos - so students can get quick, actionable feedback on how to improve."

The company also announced new "special" educational pricing for three tools for Chrome OS . These include Explain Everything, Soundtrap and WeVideo.

Explain Everything is an interactive whiteboard and screencasting tool. Soundtrap is an online audio recording and mixing environment with collaborative capabilities. And WeVideo is an online non-linear editor (NLE) — otherwise known as video editing software — with collaborative capabilities for students.

According to Google: "We're on a mission to discover the best Chromebook tools that foster the skills of the future, so we're making a collection of creative apps available for Chromebooks that schools can purchase together at a special price, including Explain Everything, Soundtrap, and WeVideo. They may be purchased alongside Chromebooks or on their own, and they are available as an annual subscription per license from Chromebook resellers in the U.S. "

Further information can be found on Google's education site.

Google today also announced the full rollout of its educational virtual reality system, Google Expeditions, and a new screencasting classroom app called Google Cast.

Google is exhibiting in the ISTE conference this week in booth 2511.
