New Britannica CD Includes Online Link

Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. has released Britannica CD 97, the newest version of its award-winning encyclopedia on CD-ROM. Featuring the complete text in the current Encyclopaedia Britannica plus additional articles, Britannica CD 97 contains more information than any other encyclopedia on CD-ROM. It also features an improved user interface, 1,000 new graphics and illustrations, and a link to Britannica Online, the company's encyclopedia on the Internet.

Britannica CD 97 includes Merriam- Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition, and Nations of the World, which provides information on 191 nations, including maps, flags and articles.

The program's interface lets users enter questions such as, "What are clouds made of?," "Who was the first woman in the Senate?" and "Do lizards have teeth?" Each search produces a list of articles ranked according to their relevance to the query, with top ones listed first. This feature enables users to find easy answers to many questions that would be difficult to research with a conventional encyclopedia.

Britannica CD 97 (Mac or Win) also includes several features new to this version including: an improved GUI, expandable thumbnail illustrations integrated with the texts of articles, 1,000 new graphics and illustrations; updates and revisions included in the 1997 printing of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, and an optional connection to Britannica Online. Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., Chicago, IL, (800) 747-8503, www.eb.com.
