IE 4.0 Will Integrate AirMedia Technology
Microsoft Corp. will integrate AirMediaís wireless information delivery technology into the next version of Internet Explorer (IE). As a result, users will be able to have alerts and content broadcast to the Active Desktop area of their Windows OS.
PCs equipped with IE 4.0 and an inexpensive wireless receiver can constantly ìlistenî to AirMediaís Hot Off the Internet news 24 hours a day. Current AirMedia content providers include CNN Interactive, Reuters, Quote.Com, The Weather Channel, United Press International, AfricaNews, Business Wire, Ziff-Davis Wire Highlights, ITAR TASS News Agency and Futures World News.
In addition, many Internet Service Providers and commercial online services use AirMedia technology to notify customers (when they are off-line) about upcoming events, the arrival of e-mail, and more. AirMediaís wireless broadcast reaches 90.5% of the U.S. population and 98.5% of its SMSAs (Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas).
Wireless receivers, such as Global Village Communicationís NewsCatcher, can be found at major computer and electronics retailers.
