Fiber Termination Units Enhance Wall or Rack Mounts

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s FutureFlex Fiber Termination Units (FTUs) come in several sizes and mounting styles, including wall mount and rack mount. Designed for use with FutureFlex Air-Blown Fiber Optic Cabling Systems, the FTUs are used to terminate optical fibers from air-blown fiber bundles, providing a transition point between the air-blown fiber infrastructure and fiber jumpers connected to servers, computers or other network electronics.

The wall mount FTUs are heavy-duty cabinet enclosures fabricated in 14- or 16-gauge rolled steel. The enclosures are available in two sizes. They both feature two security levels, a key-locked area for installation and maintenance, and a fastened area for end-user entry. They accommodate cables up to two inches in diameter and support all common connector types, as well as singlemode or multimode pigtail splicing and field termination. In addition, the modular 48 connector port unit allows the installer to attach a Fiber Termination Unit to the face of a Tube Distribution Unit, providing for both tube distribution and fiber termination with minimal wall space.

The rack mount FTUs attach to standard 19" or 23" equipment racks, and are designed to accommodate EIA standard 6-pack panels and/or splice trays. Five sizes are available, offering fiber capacity ranging from 24 to 144 fibers. Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, Research Triangle Park, NC, (800) 358-7378, www.sumitom'electric.com.
