Wireless Networking is in the Cards

Providing a Universal Serial Bus (USB) version of wireless networking for schools, Acer NeWeb has introduced the USB format of its WarpLink wireless networking kit. It is a complete, easy-to-install wireless Local Area Network (LAN) solution. The WarpLink Communicator Card, which is also available in ISA card and PCMCIA card formats, allows users to connect multiple PCs within a SOHO or home environment. It allows PCs to share Internet access, information and resources without the hassle of wires. This can be particularly useful for classroom laptop computers, which rely on mobility.

The card assures high data transmission by using 2.4 GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum, combined with Acer’s cutting edge antenna technology. It has a range of up to 500’, more than sufficient for any classroom environment. A data transfer rate of up to 1 Mbps easily handles networking, Internet sharing and more. WarpLink will work on PCs with a 486 processor or above, running Windows 95 or 98. It is recommended that the PC have at least 16 MB of RAM, as well as 10 MB of free disk space.
