netLibrary, Inc., distributor of full-length digitalversions of publishers’ books, announces their free personal softwareapplication, eBook Reader. Thisreader allows users to read eBooks without being connected to the Internet. ThenetLibrary enables library patrons to check out eBooks from their library’seBook collection, download them to their PCs, and read them offline. Thiscapability is paired with netLibrary’s online eBook reading solution, whichpermits searching, previewing, and checking out eBooks through a Web browserand live Internet connection. Helpful features such as search, highlight,annotation and citations are also provided, and can be saved on users’ harddrives for future use. The software, which is available as a free download fromthe netLibary Web site, requires 5.5 MB of hard disk space and 20 minutes todownload on a 56K modem. The hardware requirements for running the reader are aPentium 100 or equivalent, 32 MB of RAM, 20 MB of free hard disk space, andWindows 95/98/NT 4.0 or greater.

A selection of American Library Association (ALA) titleswill be made available as eBooks through netLibrary.
