Online Program Provides Computer Literacy Assessment, Immediate Instruction

A new online program is making it possible for students and educators nationwide to instantly assess their computer skill levels and receive on-the-spot training. From tasks as basic as using a mouse and Internet navigation to more complex computer skills such as diagnosing a hard drive, the new online Computer Assessment and Tutorial (CAT1) program evaluates the computer literacy of users and offers immediate instruction if a tested skill is performed inadequately. The CAT1 program was developed through a partnership between Pittsburg State University in Kansas and the Technological Fluency Institute (TFI). It simulates 24 computer skills and measures the performance of each in a simple, step-by-step format. Currently available for only the Windows platform, CAT1 is the first in a series of online assessment and learning programs developed by TFI to address technological fluency and computer literacy.
