Palm Beach County Deploys WAN Optimizer

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

The School District of Palm Beach County in Florida has deployed a WAN optimization technology called ProxySG from Blue Coat Systems. The device is an appliance designed to accelerate file transfers, educational content, and applications across the WAN. It was implemented at 160 sites, which Blue Coat reported was the largest WAN optimization deployment in history.

The deployment spans the entire wide-area network of Palm County, from district headquarters to each individual educational facility. Blue Coat ProxySG appliances use the company's MACH5 framework to accelerate enterprise applications, including Web and secure Web applications, file services, e-mail (including Microsoft Exchange), and streaming video. "Since the MACH5 technology is integrated with Blue Coat ProxySG appliances, it enables organizations to manage all of their user/application interactions--to stop undesirable applications, regulate less important applications, and accelerate critical applications, even when encrypted using SSL," according to Blue Coat.

The School District of Palm Beach County serves about 166,000 students and is the 11th-largest district in the United States. It employs 21,700 teachers and administrative staff and has about 40,000 computers.
