Macworld Expo: 3ware Sidecar SATA II RAID Adds Leopard Support

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

At the Macworld Conference & Expo this week in San Francisco, Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) announced that its SATA II hardware RAID solution, the 3ware Sidecar, now offers support for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The units have also undergone a price reduction, and the company is offering a $100 Macworld show discount.

3ware Sidecar is a desktop RAID storage solution targeted largely toward creative applications, such as video editing, authoring, and graphic design. Sidecar is also used for business continuity/backup applications and is compatible with Leopard's Tie Machine feature. The external xSATA units offer capacities up to 4 TB and include the following features:

  • A four-bay chassis;
  • 3ware 9650SE PCI Express controller;
  • High-speed Multi-lane cabling;
  • Support for a variety of SATA drives, which are hot-swappable;
  • Supporting software;
  • An available onboard battery backup unit for up to 72 hours of juice in the event of power failure; and
  • Speed up to four times that of eSATA.

AMCC is showing off the 3ware Sidecar this week at the Macworld convention in booth 2532 at the Moscone Center South Hall. Attendees purchasing units at the show will receive a $100 discount off the retail price. (Prices vary by capacity.) The company also recently announced a $400 price reduction on the base configuration (down to $895, not including drives).
