Microsoft Launches Learning Suite for Magellan Initiative

Microsoft has launched its Magellan Learning Suite, a package of software solutions and services designed to support a portable computer called Magellan, a low-cost system based in Intel's Classmate PC targeted toward elementary and middle school students. The suite will initially support Portuguese initiatives aimed at infusing technology into the Portuguese education system and delivering technology and training to disadvantaged youth in the country.

U Arizona, Tucson Unified Receive Grant for Environmental Ed Center

The University of Arizona College of Education and Tucson Unified School District in Arizona have received a grant from the Qwest Foundation to help fund the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning, which aims to provide out-of-school science, social studies, reading, and writing education for preK-12 students.

Florida District Deploys Mimosa NearPoint for Data Archiving and eDiscovery

Orange County Public Schools in Florida said it plans to deploy Mimosa NearPoint in an effort to streamline its e-mail archiving process. The solution will also enhance the district's ability to search and recover the stored data for a variety of applications, including eDiscovery and litigation.

Arizona District Increases Bandwidth for eLearning, Professional Development

Florence Unified School District in Arizona reported recently that it's increased its network bandwidth by 50 times to help bring Web- based learning materials into classrooms and to support other electronic initiatives. The district signed on with Trillion Partners to handle the broadband implementation.
