Are Schools Reinforcing Technology Use Among Students?

A number of recent reports have focused on the shortcomings of schools in adopting technology and encouraging its use for educational purposes among students. Nevertheless, according to a new report, large numbers of schools are, in some ways, taking technology to heart, integrating it into classroom activities and encouraging its use outside of school.

Chicago Schools Receive $5 Million for Science Education

Chicago Public Schools has received a donation of $5 million to help support science education and district science initiatives over the next five years. The award was granted to the school by Baxter International, a developer and manufacturer of healthcare products focused on hemophilia, immune disorders, infectious diseases, kidney disease, and other medical conditions.

Texas District Deploys 802.11n Wireless

Tomball Independent School District in Texas has is deploying a new 802.11n wireless network across 12 facilities. Tomball chose Aruba Networks' wireless LAN hardware for the implementation. It's also deploying Aruba's identity-based security systems across its facilities.

Erie District Revamps Student Data System

The School District of the City of Erie (SDCE) in Pennsylvania has deployed Infinite Campus as its student data system. The implementation, which was handled in cooperation with technology provider Custom Computer Specialists, was part of a five-year, $15 million grant the district received last year from the GE Foundation's Developing Futures in Education program.

Houston ISD Uses Wireless Devices To Administer Reading Assessments

Houston Independent School District announced recenty that it will implement Wireless Generation's mClass platform to administer formative assessments wirelessly, to K-3 students.

Everett Public Schools in Washington has contracted with Certica Solutions to deploy its Certify product for the 18,500-student district in an effort to enhance data integrity and data management.

Pearson Launches Stanford 10 Online

Pearson's Educational Assessment Business has announced a new, online version of the Stanford Achievement Test, for students in grades 3 through 12. Stanford 10 Online is intended to increase the efficiency of test delivery, enhance security, and speed the evaluation process.
