  • Education Dept. Offers Up Good News, Bad News on EETT Funds

    The United States Department of Education could make all $650 million of the EETT stimulus package funds available to states by July 1 rather than in the fall, according to information revealed at a Washington, DC meeting held last week for state education technology directors. Further, states may have the choice of distributing 100 percent of these funds via competitive grants or splitting funds between competitive and Title I formula grants. More

    For the first time in two years, EETT isn't on the chopping block in a Presidential budget proposal. But it is on the proverbial shawarma spit, as the budget proposed for 2010 by the Obama administration seeks to shave off $169 million from the 2009 figure, bringing it down to $100 million. More

  • Survey: Public Sector Largely Unaware of Stimulus Fund Availability

    Dell has released the results of a recent survey of public sector IT professionals, and it shows a large percentage are not aware of the ARRA stimulus package benefits available to them for technology improvements. The survey cited the likelihood of continuing challenges among IT workers in public healthcare and education. More

  • Houston ISD Tracks Bus Fleet with AT&T Wireless Network

    The Houston Independent School District (HISD) will be monitoring the whereabouts of its school buses wirelessly. The district has signed a contract for AT&T fleet management services, enabling the school district to wirelessly monitor its fleet of 1,100 school buses and vehicles by using GPS technology over the AT&T wireless network.   • Absolute Publishes McAfee ePO Plug and Launches Netbook Tracking Service

    Absolute Software has created a free plug-in for the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), which allows users to view Computrace tracking and security data within the McAfee ePO console. The company also has launched an IT asset management and theft recovery program for netbooks. ePO provides a central console from which administrators can manage agents, policies, and other security mechanisms on the network.
