Brief: IL&FS Releases Xperica

IL&FS Education has launched Xperica, a virtual science laboratory in the form of an iPad app.

The app, targeted at high school science students, debuted with a focus on physics, but the company reported it plans to add other sciences in the future. It allows users to play with elements that react similarly to their real-world counterparts, changing the results of experiments that can be seen visually or as measurements. The app features four experiments, with more available through the interface featuring topics, such as:

  • The Archimedes Principle;
  • Pulleys;
  • Resistance;
  • Oscillation; and
  • Projectile motion.

The app also features a feedback button for support and suggestions, and connectivity with Facebook and Twitter. A Web site, xperica.com, also provides support and information about the app.

According to a company representative, IL&FS is working with teachers to add teacher resources and student learning materials to the Web site over the summer. Current plans include assignment information, flash cards, and sample tests for teachers, and deeper explanations of the concepts, exercises, and links to other information for the students.
