DVS Enterprise Incorporates Unidesk Desktop Layering

Desktop layering software from Unidesk will be incorporated into Dell's desktop virtualization solution (DVS) to provide increased affordability and ease for virtual desktop implementation (VDI).

Dell's DVS Enterprise will make use of Unidesk software for virtual desktop provisioning as well as for management software.

In addition to its already-existing ability to integrate with Citrix and VMware technology, Unidesk has unveiled a capability to directly provision desktops into Citrix XenDesktop for catalogs and groups.

Because different combinations of applications and operating systems can be customized in "layers" into XenDesktop groups and catalogs directly, the integration eliminates the need for large numbers of administrative tools.

The integration allows IT departments to:

  • Create and sustain virtual desktops and desktop customizations;
  • Package and deliver applications;
  • Manage Microsoft Windows gold images; and
  • Maximize storage.

Both the integration with Citrix XenDesktop and the incorporation of Unidesk into Dell DVS Enterprise are available immediately. More enhancements and services are expected to become available by the end of the year, according to the company.
