Fillmore USD To Open Online High School
California's Fillmore Unified School District will launch an online high school, the Fillmore Digital Academy, in the fall in an effort to allow students to balance school with other responsibilities and interests.
The academy's learning management system (LMS), Common Core-aligned curriculum, online tutoring, and student assistance will all be provided by Advanced Academics. The company will also provide access to state-certified teachers at any time Monday through Friday, and technical assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Fillmore Digital Academy will also offer students the opportunity to take college-level courses, some of which will earn college credit.
"Fillmore Digital Academy will give area high school students the opportunity to receive a quality education and the freedom of being able to complete coursework on their own time, allowing students to juggle school, work, family commitments, sports or other outside interests," Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Michael Johnson said, in a prepared statement. "The program features a comprehensive curriculum, including Advanced Placement courses and a wide variety of electives, as well as experienced, California-credentialed teachers available to offer students one-on-one tutoring and instruction in real time during the school week. We're proud to be part of a program that delivers appropriate rigor, high levels of support and flexibility."
The Fillmore Unified School District includes five elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. More information is available at fillmore.k12.ca.us.
