Illinois District Turns to Data Warehousing to Improve Success Metrics

An Illinois district near Chicago is installing a data warehouse solution from DecisionEd to help manage its data analysis, with the goal of improving success metrics like its graduation rate.

Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 will use the solution to combine different information databases and consolidate its data. Teachers, for example, can use the system to view data across multiple systems in a single report to help make decisions.

Based on quantitative decision tools adapted for education-specific use, the data platform lets users access dashboards and reports from IBM Cognos.

"We expect this tool to play an important role in making our teacher teams more productive in their analysis of student data," said Charles Sprandel, director of research, assessment, and quality analysis at the district in a statement. "We are currently losing valuable time collecting and distributing data so that these teams can make decisions that best meet the needs of our students. The DecisionEd warehouse solution will also give us an even greater ability to more fully integrate our district performance indicators into daily decision making."
