Santa Clara USD Adopts Math Curriculum for Embedded PD
The Santa Clara Unified School District has selected a Web-based mathematics curriculum for
students in grades K-5 in an effort to provide professional development designed for the curriculum and improve parent understanding of
student instruction.
The district chose to adopt Origo's
Stepping Stones for its Common Core alignment, embedded professional development
and tools designed to help parents understand how math is being taught.
The comprehensive online curriculum "delivers multiple ways to differentiate math instruction, offers Common Core aligned resources and
develops students' high-order math skills," according to a news release.
"What sets Origo Stepping Stones apart from similar programs is that Common Core Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practice are
ingrained in every component of the curriculum," said Kathie Kanavel, director of educational media and learning resources for Santa Clara
Unified School District, in a prepared statement. "The program includes opportunities for formal and informal assessment and is driven by
having students learn the concepts, rather than the procedures, which leads to deeper mathematical understanding."
