University Teams with Littera on High-Impact Tutoring for Every Michigan School District

Every K–12 school district in Michigan now has access to research-based, high-impact tutoring, thanks to a new partnership between the Grand Valley State University NextEd Co-Lab and Littera Education, according to a news release.

GVSU’s K–12 Connect tutoring initiative offered through the Littera Academic Support Platform means Michigan school districts can now implement, customize, and track the performance of high-impact tutoring programs, said the university.

The K–12 Connect initiative was created by GVSU education researchers and experts in May 2020 to support Michigan families with tutoring as the pandemic’s impacts on learning began to become apparent. The program recently expanded to work directly with schools, districts and community-based organizations throughout the state, providing high-dosage 1:1 and 1:2 tutoring in all subjects and grade levels, with an additional focus on targeted reading support.

K–12 Connect is staffed with tutors who are studying education and are employed by and trained by GVSU College of Education faculty. By partnering with the Littera platform, the K–12 Connect tutoring program can allow participating districts to incorporate their own curriculum into the instruction as well as track session attendance and progress for every student, according to the news release.

“Together, K–12 Connect and Littera offer Michigan students ‘high-dosage’ tutoring — the only model that has been proven effective at accelerating learning,” the university said in its announcement. “High-dosage tutoring means that students receive instruction several times per week, with the same tutor for the length of the program. Students and tutors interact in person or via real-time audio and video, which fosters relationships that support learning.”

The K–12 Connect program has already launched in several Michigan districts and will be available to all Michigan districts this fall, according to the news release.
