Code.org Reinvents Hour of Code as Hour of AI

Education nonprofit Code.org has partnered with CSforALL to launch the Hour of AI, a global initiative providing learning activities for AI education. An evolution from the organization's previous Hour of Code program, Hour of AI "aims to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to understand, explore, and create with artificial intelligence," according to a news announcement.

Taking place during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-12, 2025), the Hour of AI will offer self-guided activities that prompt learners to "express their creativity with the help of AI through a mashup of music and synchronized dance." Participants will utilize coding and AI tools to design dancers, remix music, and choreograph dance routines to build AI literacy and prepare for the AI era.

"Just as the Hour of Code showed students they could be creators of technology, the Hour of AI will help them imagine their place in an AI-powered world," commented Hadi Partovi, CEO and co-founder of Code.org, in a statement. "Every student deserves to feel confident in their understanding of the technology shaping their future. And every parent deserves the confidence that their child is prepared for it."

The Hour of AI is backed by a coalition of partners, including Microsoft, Amazon, Anthropic, Zoom, Adobe, Digital Promise, Khan Academy, LEGO Education, Minecraft Education, Pearson, ISTE, Common Sense Media, American Federation of Teachers (AFT), National Education Association (NEA), and Scratch Foundation.
