Liquidware Labs Updates User Profile Management Tool

Liquidware Labs has updated its user profile management and configuration program. ProfileUnity Pro version 4.5 allows the administrator to synchronize user data, block by block, to a central database, where it can be accessed on demand from the user's existing or new desktop. The software works with VMware View, Citrix XenDesktop, or a physical Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 computer.

Data is migrated in the background using block-level transfer during a user's session through a centrally managed folder redirection and synchronization module in ProfileUnity Pro. The administrator can use a throttling feature for file migration to minimize the impact on network traffic. Data is also made available to laptops through offline folders. The desktop being managed requires no agent or other software.

Version 4.5 also includes usability features and integration with the company's flagship product, Stratusphere, which is itself a management tool for virtual environments.

"Organizations are encountering many challenges in actually moving user data to new desktop technologies such as Windows 7 and [virtual desktop infrastructure] solutions from VMware and Citrix," said Jason E. Smith, vice president of marketing for Liquidware Labs. "Data that resides on existing desktops is all too often ignored or poorly migrated during transitions. ProfileUnity Pro version 4.5 removes this challenge by automating the process and ensuring that mission critical data is properly synchronized, according to best-practices, on a network store where it can accessed by the user with any existing or new desktop in the future."
