Sketchpad Explorer Math Instruction Software Released for iPad

Education publisher Key Curriculum Press has released Sketchpad Explorer, a free iPad app that lets users access mathematics materials from the Geometer’s Sketchpad, a math instruction suite for grades 3 through 12.

The Geometer's Sketchpad is a suite of Common Core-aligned math instruction software and curriculum modules ranging from elementary math to calculus. It allows students to explore mathematics by providing tools for them to create diagrams and figures. Educators can also use the software to generate teaching aids. It includes more than 500 classroom activities through Sketchpad LessonLink; an online community called Sketch Exchange, where users can share activities and ask questions; learning guides and reference materials; and professional development resources, ranging from online tutorials and webinars to online and in-person teacher training.

Sketchpad Explorer provides access to various components of the Geometer's Sketchpad, including the Sketch Exchange community and the Sketchpad Resource Center, as well as libraries published by teachers. The Sketchpad Resource Center offers activities, tips, technical support, user groups, and other Sketchpad-related materials.

Sketchpad Explorer is available now as a free app for iPad but will increase to $3.99 in September. It can be accessed through iTunes directly. The Geometer's Sketchpad 5 is desktop software for Mac OS X and Windows. Additional details can also be found on the company's site.
