If you want to get students excited about U.S. geography, GeoCycle USA from EdVenture Software is a good tool to start with. Strapped into a GeoCycle, users choose the way they want to explore places, including states, capitals, major cities, rivers, deserts, lakes, oceans, mountains and famous sites. The easy-to-use program develops skills in map reading, critical thinking, navigation and physical geography. Students are also challenged with colorful political and satellite maps that test their sense of direction. In addition, the use of quality images, a colorful design and amusing sound effects and dialogue make this fast-paced program enjoyable and entertaining for students.

GeoCycle USA is filled with multiple-choice, word scrabble and mystery picture games, among other activities, which are educational for all levels of geography knowledge. The program d'es a nice job of breaking down the country into four colorful regions, allowing students to concentrate on certain areas instead of trying to absorb the geography of the entire United States at once. And while the game aspect of the program is appealing to children, the level of content makes it a practical geography learning tool for adults as well. The only minor problem is that navigating the GeoCycle can be tricky at first. The program is intended for ages 8 to adult.
