Mount Pleasant District Overhauls Network

12.06.2006—The Mount Pleasant School District in San Jose, Calif. has overhauled its network with the help of PWT-IT, a 3Com Gold service partner. PWT-IT replaced the district's aging network to meet the demands of the area's small but growing community. The district serves some 3,000 students in six schools, kindergarten through eighth grade.
George Perez, superintendent of the Mt. Pleasant School District, said, "Inter-school communications were slow; campus security systems were not integrated or automated; and, every time one of our student labs went online, our entire network came to a crawl. Our network was in desperate need of upgrade and overhaul, but as with open-heart surgery, implementation could not interfere with daily operations, it was imperative that we keep our information life-blood flowing without interruption."
PWT-IT had to replace the existing network, which had been built up over years by volunteers, and repurpose certain components to improve performance for administrators, teachers and students. Components were supplied primarily by 3Com, including new 2226 PWR Plus, 4500, 5500G-EI LAN switches.
