##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

LaCie has introduced a new four-bay RAID that supports capacities up to 6 TB. Designed for desktop storage, the new 4big Quadra array will be available in 2 TB, 4 TB, and 6 TB configurations with support for RAID 0 and RAID 5 configurations.

The 3-gigabit eSATA array supports burst transfer rates of up to 200 MBps to 230 MBps for high-end media production, including audio, HD, and graphics applications. It includes four hot-swap-compatible bays. It's also stackable and chainable for expansion of up to 24 TB and an increase in throughput to as much as 600 MBps. In addition to eSATA, the 4big Quadra also supports FireWire 400 and 800 and USB 2.0.

The unit is compatible with Mac OS X and Windows systems and includes Genie Backup Manager Pro and Intego Backup Manager Pro for backup and recovery. It's also compatible with Apple's Time Machine technology. LaCie said the unit also uses 30 percent to 80- percent less power than traditional RAID towers.

The 4big Quadra is expected to ship in capacities of 2 TB, 4 TB and 6 TB in October starting at $849. Further information can be found here.
