New Authenticator Delivers Single Sign-on to Mac Users

Marshal8e6, which develops Web and e-mail security products for the K-12 environment, will soon release Authenticator for Apple, which provides single sign-on capability to Apple workstations and laptop users running Mac OS X 10.5 or later. This is done by matching the user's authentication to Microsoft's Active Directory, Apple's Open Directory, and Novell's eDirectory.
The new software application works in conjunction with the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filter, a Web filtering appliance sold by the company. The one-step authentication was previously available only to Windows users.
"Marshal8e6 clearly understands the unique needs of the education market and continues to lead the pack with security innovations geared toward us," said Jim Culbert, information security analyst, Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, FL. "With Authenticator for Apple, we look forward to seamlessly authenticating our Mac and Windows users. Not only does this make it easier for us to protect our students from unsafe materials online, it also ensures that our network is better protected against malware and other security threats."
The company said Authenticator for Apple will be available in early Q2 2009 and is included as part of the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filtering and Reporting Standard and Professional Edition annual subscriptions. The company was formed when Marshal and 8e6 Technologies merged in November 2008.
