AWS Launches Intelligent Robotics Service

Amazon Web Services is making it easier for developers to develop, test and deploy robotics applications in the cloud through AWS RoboMaker.

At the Amazon Web Services re:Invent public sector breakfast, AWS leaders made a number of announcements related to new offerings in the education space. AWS RoboMaker is designed to help developers develop, test and deploy robotics applications through a cloud-based developer platform.

The software-as-a-service offering uses the open source robotics software framework Robotics Operating System and provides connectivity to other AWS services for matching learning, monitoring and analytics.  These services allow AWS RoboMaker to stream data, navigate, comprehend and learn. AWS RoboMaker is already being piloted at 12 universities.

"AWS RoboMaker provides an AWS Cloud9-based robotics integrated development environment for application development, robotics simulation to accelerate application testing, and fleet management for remote application deployment, update and management," said AWS leadership in a Nov. 27 blog post."

AWS leaders also announced an update to the AWS Educate user interface to allow students ages 14–17 to pursue badges for Cloud Explorer, Cloud Inventor and Cloud Builder.  The Explorer and Inventor badges have been revamped to give students a more game-based experience and the new Builder page gives students hands-on experience with building a website and chat. 

In addition, AWS Educate is getting "significant enhancements" to its job board and career-management tools to allow members to create a pipeline of cloud-ready students for companies that use AWS.  AWS is also launching the AWS Educate Interview Accelerator to put qualified students in the fast lane to job opportunities.
