AI to Experience Massive Growth in Education

Artificial intelligence will experience more than a tenfold growth in the education sector over the next eight years. According to a new forecast by P&S Intelligence, expenditures for AI by schools will grow from $2.13 billion in 2022 to $25.77 billion in 2030.

Those figures are for worldwide expenditures, but North America is and will continue to be the largest user of AI in education. In 2022, North America accounted for $887 million, or about 42% of the worldwide total. P&S indicated this was owing to "highly developed educational infrastructure, a high focus on reducing the burden on teachers with respect to administrative tasks, huge spending on ed tech, an increased need for personalized learning in classrooms, and a surge in demand for intelligent solutions to improve students’ academic performance in the region."

At present, the top uses of AI in education are administrative, including automating tasks, as educational, in particular using AI to explore "opportunities for improving classroom teaching." Those use cases make up 77.4% of total AI expenditures in schools.

Further details can be found on the P&S Intelligence site. The full report starts at $4,900.
